What Sets Undeniable and Undone Apart from Other Books in the Series?

What sets Undeniable and Undone apart from the rest of the series?

If you're new to this spicy southern paranormal romance series, there are currently four books available, and all of them are from the POV of a different character, notably the women. Each book focuses on a different couple, though all books are connected in their own way. In the 5th installment, Undeniable and Undone, we get chapters from Jesse's POV, which is a major change compared to the others. It's nice to see what's going on in his mind, especially after Rose was just dragged into Hell after sacrificing herself to save the world. He’s vowed to save her before the dimension collapses, but how?! Guess you’ll have to wait and see…

Real revenge. Besides the banter, cute cat stalking (Rose likes to transform into a cat to spy on Jesse out of curiosity and interest), and heavy flirting that personally left me making excited "eeee!" sounds, we're finally at a point where an antagonist from the first book gets his. As in, Velda just cursed the serial killer vamp who's been killing blondes (and was responsible for inadvertently turning Madison Lowe into a vampire in Undead and Undone) at the end of book 4. If you forgot or haven't read the book yet, spoiler alert: he's gonna be a walking corpse. So, we'll get to see him suffer in book 5. He's been a thorn in our butts for some time now. He murdered Velda and Rose's friend, Mindy. It's time to see some payback!

We go to Hell. We've never actually been to Hell before, but in book 5, we go, and it's terrifying as f***.

We've got a new enemy in book 5, an antagonist who is going to enrage you (hey, I speak from personal experience). You'll be wishing for their demise even more than the serial killer vamp! Wait, isn’t that guy immortal? Yep! How does one kill an immortal vamp whose ashes just rise again after you’ve beheaded them? You’ll find out in book 5.

An old friend returns. Claire returned with a little bang in book 4 when she tried to warn Velda not to unleash demons, as the Hell dimension was already fragile. Velda didn't listen. Claire returns more in book 5 to help Rose. As you might remember at the end of book 4, the ghost latched herself onto Rose before they were both dragged into Hell. If you're unfamiliar with the series, you might be asking: Who exactly is Claire? She was a bit of an antagonist in book 1, as she insulted and hurt our MC, Madison, out of jealousy. Since being murdered in book 2 by a hitman in The High Society (an evil vamp organization killed off in book 3), only a glimpse or two was seen of her by Hailey. By book 3, Hailey and Ivy did a seance to reach out to her. This is when Claire urged them to run, as the demon who'd collected her soul was coming. This is one of the demons Velda had unleashed, and that unleashing is why the Hell dimension Claire was trapped in with many other souls broke, releasing all trapped souls, including vengeful ones. Long story short, Claire has felt the weight of a crushing guilt due to how terrible she'd been as a friend to Madison and Hailey. We'll see this guilt manifest in book 5. Claire is desperate to make amends, but she hasn't forgiven herself just yet.

There's more magick! While Velda did spells in book 4, it's nothing compared to what we'll see in Undeniable and Undone. Though Rose has been avoiding using since she was nine, she finally caves and accepts her natural born abilities, using them more and more. One thing she does in book 4 that we'll also see in 5, is stalking the serial killer vamp. After Mindy was murdered, he sent roses to her funeral and tucked a sick note inside the arrangement. This pissed Rose off, so she goes after him. Her slip was assuming he DIDN'T follow her when she finally found him sitting in a little bar called Tipsy’s. Her powers become stronger in book 5, which she'll need when this new enemy emerges. We'll see shapeshifting, telekinesis, and premonitions to name a few.

Spells have been undone. In book 4, Rose used a spell from the dark grimoire to save the world, but it was a spell to undo ALL the spells ever cast from the book. As you can imagine, some chaos will ensue.

Our MC hates vamps. This is a little new considering how Hailey in book 2 fell hard for Derick, her future vampire husband. Rose, on the other hand, despises ALL vamps. Why? Because one murdered her and Velda's mother when they were kids. And this wasn’t just a random vamp. He was their mother’s boyfriend! I feel bad for Jesse since he’s fallen for a girl who already hates him. Jesse does his best to win her over, which does work a little. Mostly, it’s the dreams that drive her mad… almost mad enough to let go of her hatred and anger and take Jesse to bed. Rose is plagued by sex dreams where she not only experiences unmatched pleasure, but is also a vampire in them! She knows her destiny is to be undead and to be with Jesse, but she doesn't accept this until she actually IS undead. Even then, it's a rough ride being something she hates so much.

Trauma. Maybe Velda hid it better or tucked it away more stealthily than Rose, but in book 5, the murder of their murder weighs on Rose. It's been thirteen years, but she still remembers every unsettling detail. She has PTSD, and we'll see it clear as day as she experiences flashbacks and anxiety.

Control. While past MCs (main characters) struggled with controlling their emotions and actions, Rose is in more control... probably because she's always forced herself to be. Though she's the younger sibling, she was more of a caretaker to Velda after they lost their mother. She's level-headed and responsible in comparison to her reckless older sis. She handles being turned into a vamp like a champ... after having a minor meltdown, that is. She doesn't pursue Jesse despite the returning dreams after she's been turned. Points for major self control! As you know from reading the series, vamps have difficulty denying desire. Maybe it's hate that keeps her from knocking on Jesse's door in the middle of the night. Because, yes, she does hate him. He turned her into a vamp! But don’t worry, they’re destined to be together, remember? She’ll get past that hate. Besides, I hear hate sex is really good.

Something that doesn't set this book entirely apart from the previous ones are the secrets. There's always something to uncover. Book 5 will leave your jaw hanging open more than once! What's different about these secrets, though? Besides being unexpected? They set things up for the next book. That's right! Book 6 is already in the works, and I'm thrilled about it! Many new characters will be introduced in book 5, and one of them will be our MC in book 6.

Can't wait to read book 5? You won't have too long of a wait, as we're in 2024 already. I've promised a spring release. In the meantime, you can binge the other books! They're all thrilling in their own way, and the spice is SPICY!!! Check out the Undone page for more details!
